Man Arrested for DUI after Falling Asleep in Drive-Thru Lane

According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 2,597 people were killed in United States traffic accidents in December 2010. Of those, 775 deaths involved alcohol-impaired drivers. A 2006 study by the NHTSA estimated that there is one drunk driving fatality in the United States every 30 minutes.

Georgia's Driving Under the Influence Laws are complex. Georgia DUI injury attorney Shane Smith can sort through the intermingled laws that potentially create complications in a DUI case.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in another state after he fell asleep behind the wheel while waiting in a Wendy's drive-thru line. Employees reported to police that they approached the car and that the driver smelled of alcohol.

According to the police report, the man told officers he had been drinking a little. When asked to exit to perform field sobriety tests the man fell out of his car. He was unable to regain his balance to perform the tests.

Police reportedly found an open bottle in the man's car and an Arby's cup with a mixed drink inside.

The man had multiple alcohol-related violations and was driving with a revoked license.
