In Part 1 of this series, Atlanta car wreck injury lawyer Shane Smith discussed the parts of a car that require maintenance. In Part two, Shane Smith suggests an easy car maintenance schedule. Just add the schedule to your calendar or planner.
On a set day each month:
- Check your oil level. Add oil if it is low and check for any leaks.
- Check your antifreeze or coolant level. Add more if the level is low.
- Look at your hoses and belts. If anything looks worn, frayed, rotten, or brittle, get it replaced.
- Check your air filter and replace it if it is dirty.
- Inspect your tires for uneven wear, damage, bulges, and leaks. Check your tire pressure.
Every three months:
- Get your oil changed (about every 3,000 miles)
- Refill the windshield washer fluid
- Check your battery fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and transmission fluid. Add fluid if the levels are low.
- Visually inspect your battery terminals and cables, and clean them if they are corroded.
Twice a year:
- Check your wiper blades and replace them if they are worn.
- Check your spare tire to make sure it is fully inflated.
- Make sure your headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and horn work properly.
- Have your brakes inspected for wear.
- Check your exhaust for rust and other damage.
Once a year:
- Replace your fuel filter.
