New Bike Lanes Created on Ponce de Leon

Many people in the Atlanta area use bicycles, both as a mode of transportation as well as for recreation.  While many Atlanta streets are equipped with bicycle lanes, even more are not. Research indicates that bicycle lanes improve bicyclist and motorist safety, encourage more people to ride bicycles, stimulates the local economy, and has a positive environmental impact. Unfortunately, bicycle accidents continue to occur even on streets where bike lanes have been created, sometimes resulting in serious injury. Anyone who has been injured in a bicycle accident should consult with one of our experienced Peachtree City personal injury attorneys in order to determine whether they have a claim.

In an effort to make Atlanta more bicycle-friendly, the Georgia Department of Transportation recently repaved and eliminated two lanes of Ponce de Leon Avenue, making room for new bike lanes.  The street has a reputation as being one of the city’s most congested roads, and the organization Atlanta Bicycle Coalition calls the street one of Atlanta’s “top bike crash avenues.”

When bicyclists are involved in accidents with motor vehicles, the results can be catastrophic. The injuries that victims sustain can require expensive medical treatment and keep people from working for an extended period of time. In some cases, bicyclists involved in accidents may be unable to care for themselves or perform everyday tasks. Some of the more common injuries that people sustain in bicycle accidents include:

  • Broken bones
  • Fractures
  • Concussions
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Contusions

In order to recover for your injuries after a bicycle accident, a plaintiff must show that a driver was negligent is some way. There are many ways that negligence can cause an accident, and an experienced personal injury lawyer can help you determine whether you have a claim.
