Newnan Man Dies in Coweta County Crash, Two Sisters Injured

A Newnan man died in a two-car crash that happened Saturday night, March 30, 2013. According to Georgia State Patrol, the Coweta County car crash occurred on Georgia Highway 34 at Fischer Road around 9:40 p.m.

Desmond Jamar Geter, 21, of Newnan, was driving a 2000 Formula Firebird eastbound on Hwy. 34 and attempted to make a left turn onto Fischer Road. At that time he was hit by a 1997 GMC Jimmy. Emily Morgan Wilson, 18, of Newnan, driver of the GMC, was headed westbound on Hwy. 34 when the collision occurred.

Upon impact, the Firebird spun out, and the Jimmy hit a concrete median and flipped over. Emily Wilson and her 15-year-old sister Macie Wilson crawled out Jimmy’s back window and were taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for medical care. Emily Wilson suffered injuries to her left arm, nose, and lip, and her sister suffered whiplash and had glass in her head. They were treated for their injuries and released a few hours later.

The Coweta Fire Department had to extricate Geter from his car, and he was transported by ambulance to Grady Hospital. Unfortunately, he suffered a severe head injury and died the next day at 9:54 p.m.

No charges have been filed in this accident at this time. According to officials, this is the second fatal Coweta County motor vehicle accident for 2013.

Shane Smith Law would like to wish the Wilson sisters a full and fast recovery, and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Desmond Jamar Geter.
