On Thursday, July 18, 2013, a tragic hit-and-run accident in Lilburn, Georgia took place that claimed the lives of a woman and a child. According to the Lilburn Police, this deadly wreck occurred Thursday evening, 20 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, and involved a pickup truck and pedestrians.
Authorities received details of this accident from four different eyewitnesses who saw what happened, which helped police piece the details together. Police say that this hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Gwinnett County was the result of a driver attempting to pass another vehicle southbound on Lawrenceville Highway past Harbins Road. It appears that a driver of a white pickup truck tried to pass another vehicle when he lost control of the pickup, jumped the curb, and crashed into a woman and child who were walking on the sidewalk along Lawrenceville Highway.
After the pickup truck struck the pedestrians, the driver (traveling with a passenger) fled the scene and continued southbound on Lawrenceville Highway. However, police later found them, and the male driver and female passenger were arrested. Authorities indicate that they expect the driver to be charged with vehicular homicide, hit-and-run, and failure to maintain in the lane. Police have not released the names of the driver and passenger at this time.
The identities of the woman and child also have not been released; however, it is believed the girl was 10 years old.
Shane Smith Law is deeply saddened to hear of these fatalities and would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of these pedestrians.
