Back To School: Think Safety When Driving In School Zones
Don't speed. Did you know that driving even as much as 15 or 20 miles per hour over the speed limit will only save you 30 to 40 seconds if you are driving just a few miles? Speeding won't keep your child from missing the tardy bell, but it may cause an accident. Is saving 30 seconds worth risking a child's life?
Avoid distractions. It only takes a second for a child to dart into the road. If you are on the phone or texting, you could hit a child before you see them. Remember that the kids inside your car can also be a distraction. If you can't tune the kids out, pull over until they are ready to behave.
Never pass a stopped school bus. Not only does this endanger children getting on and off the bus, but it is against the law
